The Bucks County Historical Society (BCHS) is grounded in the legacy of Doylestown native, historian, and archaeologist, Henry Chapman Mercer (1856–1930). Mercer bequeathed his unique concrete castle, Fonthill, his vast collection of early Americana, and the the Mercer Museum, in which it was housed, to the historical society. Today, BCHS continues to champion Mercer's legacy through education, preservation, and interaction.
BCHS wanted to develop a series of monthly newspaper ads featuring Henry Chapman Mercer's Fonthill Castle and Mercer Museum along with other historically-based community partners. Their focus highlights history's current relevance in our daily lives, individually and as a community. The design elements draw on the concrete material, tiles and glazing colors used by the buildings' creator, along with a font developed by Mercer himself.
